Getting to grips with equitable and responsible research: An introduction to the Valuing Voices principles
Modern research requires a holistic approach. Engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration and environmental sustainability have all become significant factors in the drive towards a more effective and interconnected research culture. The Valuing Voices tool will empower you to embed these and other ways of working into your research practice, helping you to shape the future of equitable and responsible research.
In this session, we will define equitable and responsible research through five principles which have been co-developed with colleagues at the University of York and Mahidol University in Thailand. Alongside examples of the principles in action from our living lab, there will be opportunities to reflect on what the principles mean for your own practice and career development and how you can use our online tool to plan your research.
By the end of the session you should be able to:
- Recognise the qualities and significance of equitable and responsible research through five principles.
- Take away a set of actions for practically implementing the five principles in your research practice.
- Understand how to use the tool independently to develop your existing research ideas and practice.
- Identify how the tool can support you to develop future research plans and make them more attractive to funders.
