You are invited to join the third in a series of webinars focused on mental health, led by a collaboration of WUN member university researchers. The webinar is titled, ‘Investing in mental health prevention and support: the economic and socio-economic evidence’.

Date: Monday 23 March 2026. Click here for the local time for this event.

Location: MS Teams. Please register here.

Thiswebinarseries seeks to work differently to traditionalwebinars with speakers providing a provocation to an overarching tension inherent in mental health research followed by collaborative group discussions. Weare delighted to welcome two speakers:

  • Rowena Jacobs (University of York, UK): The economic impacts of mental ill health and the role of prevention
  • Lucy Barrass(University of Bristol, UK): Socioeconomic risk factors, childhood adversity and mental health in Brazil and the Philippines

Each of the presenters will draw on their research expertise to address the following framing questions:

  1. What are the key socio-economic factors that impact on mental health?  What are the wider economic impacts of mental ill health? Do these differ in HICs and LMICs?
  2. How can the research on the economic impacts of mental ill health be utilised to enable a greater focus on risk and prevention?
  3. What innovative methods might we use to enhance our understanding of the risk and protective factors for mental health?
  4. How can a deeper understanding of socio-economic disadvantage and childhood adversity contribute to prevention and services to support mental health?

In addition to the presentations, thewebinarwill feature:

  • Q&A Sessionswith the speakers.
  • Breakout room discussionsto connect and share perspectives across attendees.
