TEC transfers quantum computing knowledge to AstraZeneca

AstraZeneca and the Tec’s Guadalajara campus have designed a knowledge transfer program for various cutting-edge technologies, including quantum computing, which the pharmaceutical company will apply to quantum bioinformatics, a tool for designing new drugs.

This training forms part of AstraZeneca Guadalajara’s strategy for the global evolution of information technology (IT), which it has been working on in collaboration with Tec de Monterrey since 2018.

WUN special program for early career researchers off to successful start with focus on SDGs 4 and 13

A planetary health pledge to unite health professionals in the Anthropocene

The inVIVO Planetary Health network, which has its origins in a 2012 WUN Research Development Fund grant, pursues positive change that reflect the link between people and place. In a November 2020 publication in The Lancet, researchers from inVIVO appealed for health professionals to pledge their dedication ‘to the service of humanity, and to the protection of natural systems on which human health depends.’  We asked experts around the Worldwide Universities Network for their perspectives on the pledge and its effort to expand the interpretation of ‘first do no harm’ to reflect human connections to the planet.  Click through for more.

Alberta works with West African universities to foster next generation global scholars and leaders

The University of Alberta is partnering with three West African universities, including the University of Ghana, to mentor and build tomorrow’s diverse community leaders and global intellectuals through a new project.

Powered by a $300,000 grant from the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship (QES) Advanced Scholars West Africa program, the initiative supports research-focused exchanges for doctoral researchers, post-doctoral fellows and early career academics between the U of A and universities in Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal.

The project, On the Path of Social Responsibility and Global Leadership, will give the next generation of scholars the know-how to become effective leaders in their communities and beyond, said project lead Professor Philomina Okeke-Ihejirika of the U of A’s Faculty of Arts.
